Less Than Human

In Shakespeare’s play, The Merchant of Venice, a persecuted Jewish moneylender finds the opportunity for revenge against an oppressive Christian culture in the most brutal of ways. During his trial he is urged to turn from an act of cruelty to one of compassion.
