A little insight into my love for Out of Character

Heather

After starting with Converge in 2018, I remember Nick Rowe coming up to me at the December sharing and asking me if I was going to join OOC. I had no clue what that was or who he was (ooops...start as you mean to go on, Heather!) Nick told me about the company and of course I couldn't wait to join.

After performing my first play with everyone, in front of a proper audience, hearing the laughter, sighs, gasps and every other reaction right there so close to us, it was amazing! It's such an honour being able to get on stage in front of people and give them some form of entertainment where they can forget their worries for a short time and enjoy the performance. Then when you have their reactions afterwards and you are able to have a real good natter with them, seeing them light up when they tell you their favourite character or scene, it is a privilege, there's no doubt about that.

Another lovely thing about the company is, that, because it's part of Converge, we have a few regular people who support us 100% and come to all our shows, or as many as they can. Performing at York Theatre Royal with Afterlife, with a really decent amount of seats sold, so strange though, as an audience member the theatre is huge, whereas it looks really small from the stage!

Working with our amazing Director Kate Veysey, Associate Director Jane Allanach and Assistant Director the totally fabulous Hannah Munro, talk about the dream team and triple threat! They put in so much hard work with us during rehearsals, and behind the scenes at home, they amaze me how they manage! They are all so encouraging and mostly patient (😘Jane hehe) Out of Character, just gets better and better....

I love the fact we can laugh and have fun but then knuckle down and work hard, everyone is so caring and encouraging, we all have each other’s backs and are a proper little family. We understand, and accept each other for who we are, no airs and graces. We really miss each other and often try to meet up during the Summer. Without a word of a lie, if it wasn't for Converge and Out of Character, I don't know where I’d be right now.

So, I hope you have a little insight into my love for Out of Character.

Heather
