The beginning is difficult, but what comes after is totally worth it!

Gareth's path to theatre

I started ‘Intro to theatre’ because I watched an ‘Out of Character’ play at Converge and I really liked it. My neighbour, who was in OOC, said it had really improved his confidence. At first I didn’t really enjoy it because of my low self-confidence, but during the Covid lockdowns I did a lot of thinking. So I decided to give ‘Intro to Theatre’ another go and another member of OOC said ‘Just go for it. It’s your self-confidence that’s stopping you enjoying it.’ The more I went for it, the more I enjoyed it!

Then I was invited to join ‘In the Moment’ as well as ‘Working towards performance’ and I performed in the sharing and also made a film. I really enjoyed doing both. Now I’m a member of Out of Character and I’m working on a performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’. I’m really enjoying working with the crew. I’m excited to be playing the role of Mrs Fezziwig in the big, open spaces of the Creative Centre bringing cultural diversity to the stage and especially as it’s a promenade performance.
